Mastering Structured Data ebook

By Ilana Davis

Over the years, I've thought about writing a book devoted to structured data. Its use in search engine optimization (SEO) has become very important over the last few years. I can't tell you how many times I've started to write and then got distracted by other things.

About 2 months ago, OnCrawl asked me to contribute to their structured data ebook and I couldn't say no.

This felt like a blessing in disguise. As much as I want to write a book, that's a lot of work, but I can certainly contribute.

If you've ever read any of my articles, you know that structured data has a major impact on Google Search and Google Merchant Center. Heck, I have an entire app built around structured data.

This ebook touches on so many things including:

  1. What structured data actually is and how it has become synonymous with schema
  2. Why it’s so important for SEO
  3. A detailed look at Schema.org and adding structured data to your site
  4. Practical use cases for advanced implementation of structured data

These are 3 of my favorite quotes of the 17 contributors:

“By having schema markup, your site will be better understood from a structural and content perspective, potentially making it more eligible for SGE snippets. Additionally, when schema markup is done in a connected way, it will create a knowledge graph that AI can consume.”
- Winston Burton, Senior Vice President of SEO at Acronym

"Stop thinking about keywords; start thinking about topics. This is what search engines are all about. When shifting from a keyword-based analysis to a topic-based analysis, or in other words, from strings to things, we’re able to see the big picture and eventually cover a topic holistically."
- Nicolas Piquero, SEO Consultant & Corporate Trainer at NP Consultancy

"If you didn’t know, enhanced results for products initially started with just the price, then they began including reviews, and eventually evolved to include other features such as stock availability or shipment information. ... Google constantly tests how to improve search results and user experience directly in the SERPs, and we can only expect more of that to come."
